LIGHT IN DARKNESS

CHAPTER TWO
Bill and Gladys had three children. The eldest, Simone had been a nurse. Next was Lois who was away at college, studying. Lastly there was Phil, away at the moment on a school trip.
Lacey slept deeply, but murmured names every now and then. Gladys heard the words "Maman" and "Hope." Sighing, she went back to the lounge and kitchen. She could hear Bill snoring in the bedroom.
Glad tidied up and cleaned the bathroom, wiping away some dirt and dried bloodstains.
Next she cleared all the used clothes to the washing machine and put it on. Then finally the dishes were done and put away.
There was no trace of their young visitor. Glad sat down with her Bible. Taking a sip of her hot tea, she prayed.
"Lord, I think I know something of what is happening. I need your wisdom, Jesus, and your help. You sent this girl here, Lord. Help me to love her as you do, and show her your Love."
There was a flicker at the corner of her vision. Carefully Gladys stood and edging away from the window, she peered through the blind. A parcel had been left near her door. Even as she watched, it moved and she heard a faint cry. No-one else seemed to be around, but Gladys was not stupid.
Opening the door, she over-exaggerated surprise and puzzlement, but taking care not to overdo it. She carefully picked up the bundle gingerly and saw a note. It was not nice.
